kayti23@gmail.comI have Bipolar Disorder, and I'm medicated. The diagnosis kind of split my life into an earlier, unmedicated piece and a recent (since 2000) medicated piece. In the former, I had a hard time with school, was disorganized, got into drugs and sex (some 300+ lovers in my late teens/early twenties) and computer games, had trouble keeping jobs, got committed for five weeks in a hospital psych ward, etc.
Since my diagnosis, I've had medication that put me to sleep 18+ hours/day for some months, made me gain weight, took away my ability to concentrate, gave me tremors and also shaking all along my right side, killed my memory, my ability to drive, to read, to get out of bed, to leave the house alone, etc. In November of 2006 I was put back on the medication that put the weight on me, but I've gotten back the memory, energy, ability to drive, etc., and by being careful not to eat as much as I'm hungry for, I still manage to lose five pounds a month. As of April 2007, I've lost 35 pounds but I don't predict being back to my original weight until August 2008.
I studied Math with a concentration in Computer Science until the meds made school too difficult. Then I spent a bad year in Seattle on too much Lithium with someone with several problems of even greater magnitude that I'm not encouraged to talk about. We finally escaped Seattle to come to Mission Viejo, CA, and I love it here. I love the sun, the freeways, having Los Angeles in range for weekend outings. And I love feeling like my life is under control. This is the best. This is the good part.
[More to come after it happens. ;) ]
